Two bioinformatician positions are immediately available in Guo lab at Peking University Institute of Advanced Agricultural Sciences (PKU-IAAS) located in Weifang, China. Guo lab works on genomics, bioinformatics and synthetic biology of horticulture crops including vegetables, flowers and medicinal herbs. Combining experimental and computational analysis, we aim to understand the genome architecture, gene regulatory mechanisms underlying horticulture plant growth, natural product biosynthesis, adaptation to biotic and abiotic stress, guiding crop improvement.
The successful applicants will develop and apply computational tools to process and analyze highthroughput sequencing data of plants, including but not limited to genome assembly, epigenomic, transcriptomic, metagenomic and single-cell genomic analysis. The bioinformaticians are expected to interact closely with experimental biologists in a multidisciplinary environment.
The candidates should be creative and highly motivated with a BS or MS in biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biostatistics or a related field. The successful applicant should be familiar with algorithms and data structures, and proficient in at least one programming language (e.g. Perl, Python, C/C++, Java, R). Proven experience in developing tools to analyze NGS and/or long-read data for genome assembly and annotation, epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling (e.g. RNAseq, ChIP-seq, Hi-C, ATAC-seq etc.) is required.
Experiences with machine learning is desired but not required. The ability to work in an environment at the interface of biology and computer science, in addition to good communication skills, is essential. Knowledge of life sciences and a strong interest in solving biological questions would be advantageous.
Applicants should send a cover letter and a CV including the names, affiliations and contact information of two references to Dr. Li Guo (li.guo@pku-iaas.edu.cn). The screening of applicants starts on June 1st 2022 and the positions remain open until filled. The initial contract is for a duration of three years with the possibility for extension. We provide competitive salary and benefits, as well as supporting environment for career growth. Informal inquiry about the job is welcome.
PKU-IAAS is located at Xiashan Economic and Ecological District of Weifang city, ShandongProvince, China. The city of Weifang, famous for its agriculture and kites, is located in central Shandong Peninsula, about one hour drive to Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport.
