The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will use CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to assess the importance of selected genes in oviposition behavior, larval diet preference and olfaction preference in the blow flies Lucilia cuprina and Cochliomyia macellaria. Blow flies are an ideal system for studying the evolution of the parasitic habit.

We have developed efficient protocols for gene editing in these species and have assembled and annotated whole genome sequences.The Postdoc will meet frequently with the supervisor to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.

This position is contingent on available funding; funding currently anticipated for two (2) years, with the possibility for extension.

Department Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related fields.
  • Ph.D. with less than five years postdoctoral experience essential.
  • Experience in genetics and molecular biology is desired.
