The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

We are offering a PhD position (65% full time equivalent) temporally limited for 36 months (start 1.9.2022, end 31.8.2025) and subject to funding commitment at our location at ZALF in Müncheberg (Germany) as a PhD researcher (m/f/d) Agroecological indicator for digital technologies

The D4AgEcol aims to provide knowledge for the transition to agroecological farming by identifying appropriate digital tools and technologies4 and suggest measures to adapt and exploit their potentials to the transition to sustainable food and agricultural systems. D4AgEcol aims to provide a balanced assessment of relevant digital tools and technologies for multiple farming systems, while considering its impacts on the agroecology.

Potential trade-offs, and concerns of stakeholders and citizens shall be identified, while capturing the co-creation capacity of actors and stakeholders. There project includes 7 countries in EU and ZALF contribute to work out Indicators for Agroecological Sustainability. The research will be locate at WG-ESS.

Your tasks:
 create agroecological indicators of for digital tools in agriculture
 carry out workshops with farmers (in German)
 scientific publications based on the project work (2 publications)
 participate in project network and conferences representing the research activities of the WG-ESS

Your qualifications:
 disciplinary background in crop and soil in agricultural and environmental sciences
 successfully completed Master thesis to agricultural and environmental disciplines
 thematic expertise in digital technologies agriculture
 experiences in project management
 experience and motivation in stakeholder involved research
 excellent command in English and German
