The Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position.
The successful candidate will conduct research which is process- and systems-oriented, embracing experimental, theoretical, and/or modelling approaches, and is aimed at an improved knowledge and understanding of microbial processes and/or microbial populations and communities and their impacts on natural and anthropogenically influenced biogeochemical cycles and/or pollutant dynamics. Innovative development and/or use of state-of-the-art methodology is expected.
Candidates should have an excellent track record in research and an interest in process-oriented understanding of biogeochemical cycles and pollutant dynamics. ETH and other research organizations in Switzerland, including EPFL, WSL, Eawag and the Cantonal Universities, provide a wide range of opportunities for collaboration. The hiring package includes base funding at a level commensurate with the appointment. She or he should be able to effectively lead a research team and is expected to teach environmental microbiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels (teaching may be in German or English).
Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to other top international universities.
