We are seeking for motivated Postdoctoral and/or Doctoral Researchers (f/div/m) in the Research Area of Applied Microbiology. Start: Autumn 2022 The Beemelmanns Lab is seeking for a new member of the ERC Starting Grant MORPHEUS that aims for a better functional understanding of beneficial microbes of marine organisms.
The research projects might include at least two of the following aspects • Comparative physiological analysis of marine bacteria • Comparative genomic analysis of marine bacteria • Genetic engineering of biosynthetic pathways
• Analysis of the bacterial colonization process of a marine invertebrate • Marine bioassays for activity studies • Field studies for microbial diversity analysis Main requirements:
• Master of Science for PhD position
• PhD degree or equivalent for Postdoc position
• University degree in microbiology, biochemistry, life sciences or a related discipline
• Candidates about to obtain their degree are welcomed to apply.
• A passion for microbial metabolism
• Capability to work both independently and team- and projected oriented
• Very good communication skills in English
Candidates should have at least two of the following technical skills • Hands-on experience: Analysis of microbial physiology
• Hands-on experience: Metabolic analysis of microbial (co-) cultivations
• Hands-on experience: Metabolic engineering of bacteria
• Profound knowledge in comparative genomic, metabolomic or proteomic-based approaches
• Profound knowledge in biosynthetic pathway analysis
• Profound knowledge in microscopy; preferably FISH-analysis
• Hands-on experience: maintenance of marine aquacultures
We offer a dynamic and highly motivated research group. The research group is embedded an outstanding scientific environment and a highly integrative network of life science- and technical science institutes and groups. We offer excellent technical facilities, work in a committed team, as well as strong scientific collaborations. Within the group, the student will experience a strong support based on lively collaborations and friendly interactions between the interdisciplinary scientists and they will have access to state-of-art equipment. The student will have possibilities to realize own innovative ideas and develop own project directions.
If you are interested, please send the following documents to christine.beemelmanns@uni-leipzig.de: – a tabular CV, copies of academic certificates, a brief statement of work experiences and interests, the addresses of possible referees, and at least one recommendation of an academic mentor. – the email header of the application email should be entitled: Applied Microbiology – 2022CB – Open call, evaluation on rolling basis
