The Department of Animal Science, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a position as assistant professor in lipids and vitamins in nutrition of livestock from 1 February 2023.

We seek a candidate with knowledge in analytical and nutritional aspects of lipids, fatty acids and vitamins and their effect on the health of animals and humans.

The position comprises nutritional and physicochemical aspects of lipids and vitamins in both ruminant and monogastric species (including human). The candidate must have a deep understanding of lipid- and vitamin metabolism, and their influence on metabolic disorders, health and physiological responses.

The candidate should have a strong background in nutrition and physiology and should be acquainted with the interdisciplinary principles of sustainability in animal production systems including the interaction between e.g. dietary lipids and emissions such as enteric methane. In addition, teaching and supervision of veterinary- and animal science students, and providing public sector consultancy, mainly for The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of Denmark, will be a key part of the position.

The candidate

Qualifications for the assistant professor level at Aarhus University must include postdoctoral training or similar with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record in one or more of the areas of the position as described above. This includes that you:
•         Have a MSc. and PhD in animal nutrition. 
•         Have experience in animal nutrition, rearing and experimentation.
•         Have expertise in some or all of the following analytical techniques: vitamin analysis using high performance liquid chromatography, fat and fatty acid analysis by gas liquid chromatography (GC).
•         The following will also be considered assets: demonstrated ability to produce publications and conduct independent research; ability to take a leadership role within a small research team; student mentorship experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Department of Animal Science

The mission of ANIS is to perform basic, strategic and applied research and innovation within the department’s core activities: nutrition, health and welfare. The activities make up the science-based foundation of ANIS’ teaching, public sector consultancy and collaboration with business and industry. The successful applicant will be placed in the Research Unit Monogastric nutrition.

Place of employment and place of work

The place of employment is Aarhus University (AU), and the place of work is AU Viborg, Department of Animal Science, Blichers Allé 20, DK-8830 Tjele. Teaching activities are primarily conducted at AU-Campus, 8000 Aarhus.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any).

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
