The Department of Sustainable Agriculture and Energy Systems, Campus Weihenstephan (Freising), invites applications for the position of a Professor in “Smart Farming – Artificial Intelligence in Crop Production” (salary group W2, tenured position) expected to start in the winter semester 2022 / 2023 or commencing as soon as possible.
Responsibilities in Teaching and Research: Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences seeks to appoint a candidate for a professorship, which involves a high proportion of research. In practice, this means that the position entails a reduced teaching load, which may amount to a maximum of 50 percent of regular teaching duties. The reduced teaching load is initially limited to a period of five years with the option of a further extension period. For the duration of the five-year period in which the reduced teaching load will be effective, the incumbent will be supported by a research assistant to be employed on full-time basis (1,0 position).
Responsibilities in Research The professorship will gather information and knowledge through the analysis of high spatial and temporal resolution data by means of artificial intelligence methods. The incumbent will use this information in particular to assess the supply of water and nutrients as well as the stress level of cultivated crops. The information retrieved will be used for the further develop-ment of complex action and control parameters, in particular for technologies of crop produc-tion (decision support systems). These responsibilities of the professorship necessitate intensive networking between the re-search activities of the professorship and the specialty areas of the colleagues who are em-ployed in the various departments of Weihenstephan Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. In addition, cooperation with partners from other research institutions and the business sector is required.
Responsibilities in Teaching The professorship shall offer courses and teach basic information and methods in data man-agement and data analysis to students across the various study programs of our university. The incumbent shall develop and offer German and English-language modules for both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The university expects the successful candidate to play an active role in the further develop-ment of applied research. Responsibilities of the professorship include the supervision of in-ternships, project papers and theses, teaching courses in English language as well as partic-ipation in academic self-administration.

Your Profile: Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is looking for a candidate who, at best, holds a university degree in agricultural sciences, in computer science, or in a related field. We expect applicants to have relevant scientific expertise and professional experience in the field of artificial intelligence in connection to data analysis as well as knowledge and experience in crop production.
In addition, successful applicants have experience in the acquisition of third-party funding, in the management of interdisciplinary projects, and in the targeted coordination of working groups with different thematic priorities.

3.particular ability for scientific and scholarly work as proven by a doctoral degree or compa-rable academic qualification (in German: “Gutachten über promotionsadäquate Leis-tungen”).
4.Furthermore, we require expertise in the application or development of scientific findingsand methods obtained during a period of at least five years of professional practice aftergraduation from university. Of these, at least three years must be in a field outside univer-sity.
