The faculty of biology, research group biodiversity of plants, Prof. Dr. Alexander Zizka, offers a position for a Research Assistant (postdoctoral position)
The position is offered for a period of 4 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).
Research focus of the newly established research group is the application of large dataset in biodiversity research, in particular plant biogeography, evolution and conservation
Tasks: Your tasks include scientific services in research and teaching, the development of an independent research program within the lab and the topics described above, including application for funding, assistance with student supervision and teaching, and the supervision of the group’s DNA extraction lab. Furthermore, there are ample opportunities for collaboration on research projects with other members of the lab and participation is expected.
We offer a dynamic environment and the opportunity to develop qualification in the growing field of big data biodiversity research. The position is limited to the period which is adequate to the duration of the qualification period. The qualification goal is a habilitation or an equivalent qualification required for a professorship. Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 S 1 WissZeitVG.
Profile:
The position requires a university degree (diploma, master’s degree or comparable) and a Ph.D. in biology or related disciplines, documented experiences with the generation and analysis of high throughput sequencing data (e.g. RADSeq, targeted sequence capture, genomic approaches) and fluency in written and spoken English. We are looking for a candidate with a strong publication record in biogeography, phylogenetics, macroevolution, or population genetics.
Desired is experience with supervising and teaching undergraduate students. Knowledge of German, Spanish or Portuguese, taxonomic expert knowledge of a plant group, as well as experience with data collection in South America and Europe are advantageous. Further requirement is an open, creative, and constructive mindset.
