Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Applied Entomology. This is a temporary post in the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science within the Environment & Sustainable Resource Management Section. The appointee will join a team of 19 full-time academics within the Section who are involved with teaching and research in agri-environmental sciences, crop protection, soil science, nutrient management, wildlife conservation, forestry and horticulture.The appointee will have specific expertise in insect biology and ecology, pest ecology, and integrated pest management (IPM).

Applicants must also be familiar with wider invertebrate diversity and conservation, environmental impacts of pesticides, the management of pesticide resistance and practical aspects of IPM systems, especially in the context of European Union legislation.

The appointee will be responsible for teaching in applied entomology, invertebrat! e ecology and biology, and crop protection in agriculture and horticulture. Core responsibilities will include the coordination and delivery of existing undergraduate modules (NFQ Level 8) and one Professional Diploma module (NFQ Level 7), including lectures, practicals and student assessment.

The appointee will also be required to contribute some lectures to postgraduate modules (NFQ Level 9) in biodiversity, ecosystem services and conservation, and to assist in research activities in this area. The appointee will contribute to the general operation and academic administration within the Section.

Salary: 95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) Salary Scale: €55,951 – €88,601 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
