The Max Planck Society is one of Europe’s leading research organizations. In its research laboratories, workshops, libraries, and administration, scientists and researchers perform demanding tasks with a high degree of autonomy and creativity. The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research carries out fundamental research on plants using a wide range of methods including molecular genetics, genomics, imaging, computational biology, and biochemistry. We are looking for Postdoctoral Researchers / Bioinformaticians (m/f/div) to start as soon as possible.
The positions are funded for three years within the BMBF project “EpiHAP” within the call “Epigenetics – chances for plant research”.
Who we are:
The positions are distributed between the “Max Planck-Genome-centre Cologne (MP-GC)” and the Research Group “Epigenetic Regulation of Plant Development (Epi-Group)”. With its service-oriented team, the MPGC offers many opportunities for advanced training in NGS-based approaches. The Epi-Group is led by Dr. Franziska Turck, an internationally recognized expert in plant epigenetic research.
Your tasks:
- Establishing single-cell epigenomics and transcriptomic pipelines in model plants and crops
- Applying these pipelines to cells undergoing somatic and gametophytic embryogenesis
- Analyzing single cell data from crops and model plants during embryogenesis
- Implementing deep neural network approaches for plant epigenetics
- Pushing the limits of our understanding of epigenetic barriers to plant embryogenesis
Your profile:
- PhD in natural sciences, life sciences, bioinformatics, or similar
- Solid background in experimental molecular biology or bioinformatics
- Preferably prior experience in at least one of the following: single-cell techniques, FACS, tissue culture, epigenetics, developmental biology
- Oral and written communication skills in English (required) and German (desired)
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team composed of basic researchers and industrial partners
- Communication and collaborative skills
- Interest in training peers and students
