Kiel University aims to attract more qualified women to professorships. The Institute of Crop Science and Plant Breeding in the Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences Faculty of Kiel University invites applications for a W3-Professorship of Plant Breeding unlimited to start at the 1 April 2023

The future job holder shall be responsible for the entire subject area Plant Breeding in research and teaching. The future holder of the position should represent the field of plant breeding in its entire width in teaching and should have a research focus on aspects of modifying or predictive plant breeding.

In research, the future holder of the position should focus on relevant crops cultivated in Central Europe (e.g. wheat, legumes, oilseed rape). Core competences should include methods of modern quantitative genetics (e.g. marker-assisted selection, genomic selection, and predictive phenotyping) or mutation breeding.

The applicant should be internationally recognized in a research field of plant breeding. His/her focus should be on breeding of crops through increasing pathogen resistance, resource efficiency and abiotic stress tolerance/yield security in the context of crop production systems. Interdisciplinary collaboration in the form of joint projects within CAU with related disciplines is expected. The professorship should be centrally integrated into the activities of the interdisciplinary “Kiel Life Science Research Focus” and in particular into the “Kiel Evolution Center” (CeTEB, GRK 2501, International Max-Planck Research School for Evolutionary Biology) or the “Kiel Plant Center”, respectively, the “Digital Science Center”.

The professorship should represent the subject of plant breeding in its entire width in the consecutive bachelor’s and master’s degree programs of the Faculty of Agricultural & Food Sciences as well as in the international AgriGenomics master program. The ability to teach courses in German and English is expected (three years after appointment at the latest. A positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements as well as proven pedagogical and didactical aptitude are required.
