Come grow with us at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign! Several positions are now available at the Postdoctoral Associate, Graduate Student, and Technician levels in the Leonelli, Long, and Brooks labs for an exciting new project investigating the molecular regulation of photosynthesis in Energy Sorghum.

Illinois is a world-leading center for photosynthesis research with multi-million-dollar investments in people and state-of-the-art facilities. Situated in an affordable college town, it is also a fabulous place to live, learn, and play.

Project details: This Department of Energy sponsored project aims to discover targets for improving photosynthetic efficiency in Sorghum to sustainably increase productivity. Our approach involves the development of new high-throughput tools for characterizing transcription factors in vivo and integration of physiological and genomic datasets to understand the regulation of photosynthesis.

Successful Candidates will have some combination of the qualifications listed below.

Experience or Interest in:

– Plant physiology (familiarity with photosynthesis

e.g LICOR measurements in the field and lab)

– Molecular biology techniques (molecular

cloning, PCR, etc.)

– Systems biology (modeling of gene

regulatory networks)

– Genomics (RNAseq, WGCNA, DEseq, etc.)

Willingness to:

– Develop new technologies

– Perform summer field work

– Be fearless in the face of failure

– Get creative

Expectations:

– Care and precision in all measurements

– Meticulous record keeping

– A positive outlook and courtesy for all lab members

– Publishing in peer-reviewed journals

– Mentorship of junior lab members

– A good collaborator and team player

– Get stuff done and have fun doing it

– Current US Driver’s license (strongly preferred)

To apply for any of the available positions, please send your CV, a cover letter summarizing your interest in photosynthesis/systems biology and qualifications, which position you are applying for, and contact information for three professional references to Drs. Leonelli/Long/Brooks at SorghumPhotosynthesis@gmail.com . Review of applications will begin on August 22nd and will continue until positions are filled.

We believe that strength and insight come from our differences and we are strongly committed to embracing diversity and creating an inclusive work environment for all. Individuals traditionally minoritized in STEM (and people returning to work after prolonged absences, e.g. maternity/paternity leave) are encouraged to apply.
