Two PhD scholarships are available for excellent students:

1- Biology and Epidemiology of foliar diseases of macadamia:

Project opportunity: This Earmarked Scholarship project is aligned with a recently awarded Category 1 research grant. It offers you the opportunity to work with leading researchers and contribute to large projects of national significance.

The Australian macadamia industry is widespread across a range of climatic regions with varying disease pressure, severity and orchard characteristics. Improved knowledge of the relationship among the fungal pathogens causing flower and fruit diseases and host phenology in macadamia is required. Such information would be based on thorough understanding of disease cycle, pathogen biology and epidemiology under varying environmental conditions.

The study would consider the effects of climate change and the anomalous weather trend on disease prevalence and impact, develop and use epidemiological models to support seasonal forecasts of flower and fruit diseases in macadamia. The overarching objective of the project is to develop knowledge and tools to support integrated management approach to address disease problems in macadamia.

As a scholarship recipient, you’ll receive:

  • living stipend of $29,863 per annum tax free (2023 rate), indexed annually
