Interested in symbiosis? Think research on bacteria that manipulate insect sex lives is interesting? If so, I have open postdoc, PhD student, and tech positions with start dates as early as Aug ’23.:
The Shropshire lab will officially open its doors on August 15th, 2023. Open positions are listed below. All applicants (aside from undergraduate students) should have demonstrated the ability to succeed in independent biology research. Projects will be flexible to your expertise and interests. However, applicants with evidence of skills in any of the following areas will be particularly competitive: Drosophila husbandry, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, microscopy, evolutionary biology, genomic and/or transcriptomic sequencing, host-microbe interactions, and statistical analyses. The preferred candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in professional growth and development, publication and scientific communication, and mentorship of junior lab members and community members.
Postdoctoral Scholars: Funding is available for one position. I am also excited to help postdocs obtain fellowships (e.g., NIH F32 or NSF PRFB). I have experience applying for both fellowships and received a PRFB.
Technicians: Funding is available for one position.Responsibilities will include managing day-to-day operations in the lab, including insect husbandry, solution mixing, ordering, and shipping. Technicians will also engage in research projects as time allows.
Graduate Students: Funding is available for two or more positions. If my lab interests you, and the Lehigh U. Graduate Program aligns with your goals, then reach out. PhD students will initially be funded on TA ships during the school year and through RA ships during the summer. I am happy to help undergraduates and/or graduate students write NIH F31 and NSF GRFP fellowships. I have had success with GRFP applications in the past.
Inquiries should include (1) a cover letter describing your career goals, relevant experience, interests in the lab, and start date, (2) a detailed CV, and (3) contact information for 3+ references (name, position, e-mail address, telephone number, your relationship). Please send this information as a single PDF to ShropshireJD@Lehigh.edu.
