For the EU project TransformAr “Accelerating and upscaling transformational adaptation in Europe: Demonstration of water-related innovation packages” PIK is offering a full-time PostDoc position “Hydrological Modeller” (m/f/d) (Position number: 36-2022 PostDoc Hydrological Modeller) as part of the PIK working group “Hydroclimatic Risks”, starting as soon as possible.
The position is funded until September 2025. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis.
In particular, we are looking for a hydrological modeller with a strong background in hydrology, computation/modelling and also vegetation processes (natural vegetation and agriculture). The work includes the further development of a European-scale eco-hydrological model, as well as the performance of impact and adaptation studies in the context of the water – land – food – energy nexus and for hydrological extremes under climate change.
- Model studies combining hydrology and related processes for natural and managed water and land
- Quantifying impacts of extremes (floods and droughts)
- Independent research and academic publishing activity in water sciences or related fields
- Representation of the project at international and national academic conferences
- Development of the project: academic output, knowledge transfer and capacity building in workshops and seminars
- Supervision of Master and PhD students
- Support of the project coordination
- PhD in hydrology, geosciences, environmental sciences or similar
- At least 3-year experience in process-based hydrological modeling, ideally at different scales
- Profound programming skills in Fortran or C and in Python or R
- Excellent expertise in hydrology, geosciences, environmental sciences, sustainable development, climate impact analysis
- Profound understanding of physical processes and mathematical methods
