The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (INRAE) is a public research establishment. It is a community of 12,000 people with more than 200 research units and 42 experimental units located throughout France. The institute is among the world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, in plant and animal sciences, and is 11th in the world in ecology and environment. INRAE’s main goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. In the face of the increase in population, climate change, scarcity of resources and decline in biodiversity, the institute develops solutions for multiperformance agriculture, high quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
You will be welcomed in the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Group of the SAVE Unit (Bordeaux, France). Our group has a wide range of interests in community ecology, landscape ecology, and food-web ecology. We particularly try to understand how anthropogenic disturbances affect service-providing communities and the flow of ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes. The general goal of our research is to design multifunctional landscapes and ecologically sound farming systems. We offer great infrastructure and equipment as well as a multidisciplinary working environment.
You will be in charge of conducting research related to the effect of farming practices and pesticide use in particular on biodiversity and associated ecosystem services in vineyard landscapes. You will analyse large datasets about multitrophic biodiversity and bundles of ecosystem services (e.g., pest control, yield, organic matter decomposition) under different management options and in different landscape contexts. This work will make it possible to identify landscape characteristics optimizing agroecosystem multifunctionality. The project mainly involves data analyses of already collected and compiled datasets from various experiments as well as meta-analysis.
We are looking for a scientist with strong interest in community ecology and landscape ecology with excellent skills in quantitative ecology and data analyses (using R). The scholar will have the opportunity to work collaboratively on several on-going multi-disciplinary projects. The post-doctoral researcher will be encouraged to develop own projects and will contribute to coordinate data analysis, and write scientific papers in collaboration with the research team. The recruited researcher will particularly work in close collaboration with Adrien Rusch and Laurent Delière. He /She will also assist in the supervision of students and communicate with stakeholders.
