Research assistant/doctoral student in the BigaVeTex project (65% position):
The implementation of a circular economy and the highest possible quality use of raw materials is a crucial task for the achievement of a CO2-neutral future. Research is being carried out at the University of Hohenheim on a concept in which particularly ecological renewable raw materials and residual materials are to be used both materially in the form of fibers and energetically in the form of biogas. The raw materials are first broken down by thermal pressure hydrolysis and then separated.
The resulting solid will be used as fiber, e.g. in the packaging industry or for the production of foams. The liquid, on the other hand, is to be fermented in a two-stage plant to produce biogas and digestate and used for energy or as fertilizer. The task of the project is to determine the optimum operating conditions for the substrates stinging nettle, alfalfa and hop stalk chaff in order to achieve both a high fiber yield and a high biogas yield. To this end, ensiling, the operating conditions of thermal pressure hydrolysis and the operating conditions of the two-stage biogas plant are to be investigated and optimized on a laboratory and pilot scale.
