Purdue University—West Lafayette is a public institution that was founded in 1869. We are seeking a graduate student to work on a new acoustic telemetry project aimed at addressing fish behavior and habitat use within the downtown area of the Chicago River. This position will work towards a MS degree and the questions addressed using telemetry and water quality data can be partially steered by student interests. The student will be based at Purdue University (Tomas Höök and Paris Collingsworth) but will work closely with Shedd Aquarium (Austin Happel), Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, and Illinois EPA on research and outreach for the project.

Potential candidates should demonstrate an interest in fish behavior, movement, and habitat use as well as a desire to communicate science to broad audiences. Candidates will have opportunities to present their findings through various platforms including websites, social media, presentations to the public and at scientific conferences and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
