Research and teaching of the Agricultural Economics and Policy Group at ETH Zurich, led by Prof. Dr Robert Finger, is working at the interface of agricultural sciences and economics. The teaching and research of our group contribute to more sustainable and resilient farming systems in Europe. We especially focus on farmers’ decision making, agricultural policy design and policy evaluation as well as on climate risk and risk management. Our group has large experience with the economics and policy of low- and no-pesticide production systems.
Job description: We are looking for a PhD student with a background in agricultural economics. You will conduct research on farmers’ integrated pest management decisions in European agriculture. Furthermore, you will work on the project entitled ‘Supporting the uptake of integrated pest management and low pesticide use (SUPPORT)’, financed by the programme HORIZON Europe.You are going to conduct and analyse European-wide surveys in the context of farmers’ uptake of integrated pest management practices. In the project, you are collaborating with interdisciplinary researchers from 10 European countries.
Your profile: You will have a Master’s degree (or will be close to completion), strong analytical skills and a background in agricultural economics. Knowledge of econometric analysis, integrated pest management and farmer behaviour is a plus. Good conduct in German or French is also a plus. The starting date is flexible, but preferably in January 2023.
