About University of Hohenheim: Founded in 1818, after the devastating famine, the University of Hohenheim is not only engaged in foundational research but traditionally also in developing innovative solutions for urgent social matters. Today, Hohenheim is the leading University in agricultural research and food  sciences in Germany. Its combination with Natural Sciences as well as Economics and Social Sciences makes it possible to find solutions for many global challenges. This is why the University puts great importance on maintaining an international network with strong partners.

The University of Hohenheim offers degree courses in Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs. While undergraduate courses are usually taught in German, there is a good offer in postgraduate courses in English. The research oriented studying profile of Hohenheim has been given the Ars Legendi Prize for excellence in teaching and other awards.A joint specialization of research and teaching in all subjects is Bioeconomy. It is about the economics of the future, with new products and new productions processes, made of raw material from plants, animals, or microorganisms.

The Department of Molecular Botany is a newly formed research group focusing on the chemical and molecular ecology of plant-insect interactions. To support research and teaching in the field, we are looking for a highly motivated research assistant (from Feb. 1st, 2023, for a period of three years). Main research questions of the lab are how plants react to herbivores and thereby integrate different environmental stimuli, the evolution of plant responses to ecological interactions, as well as mechanistic interactions and trade-offs between different plant adaptation strategies.

We use a spectrum of ecological (bioassay, greenhouse and field experiments), chemical and molecular methods to address these questions. We offer a diverse field of work with creative freedom, a cooperative and dedicated team, the opportunity to do a doctorate in a graduate program and additional offers from the university for employees (e.g. additional company pension scheme, university sports, JobTicket BW).

Central tasks: Involvement in the labs research projects (conducting experiments, method development, chemical and molecular analyses, experiment evaluation and documentation) and in teaching (including courses given in German).

Qualification requirements: We seek for highly motivated candidates with great interest in chemical and molecular ecology. A master’s degree or diploma in biology, environmental sciences or a related subject is preconditioned. Experience with ecological experiments and knowledge in data analysis and statistics are required. Ideally, candidates are familiar with multivariate statistics (e.g. using R), analytic techniques (e.g. HPLC-DAD, LC-MS, GC-MS) and/or molecular methods (e.g. qPCR, CRISPR/Cas). We expect you to work independently, be  an active member of the team and to have very good written and spoken English skills.
