The Department of Plant Ecology (Working Group Functional and Tropical Plant Ecology, Prof. Dr. Engelbrecht) at the University of Bayreuth, Germany, offers a Senior Post-Doctoral Position (m/f/d) in Plant Ecology . The full-time position is initially offered for 3 years, extendable after evaluation for up to 3 years.
The research group examines the mechanisms determining plant distribution patterns and the composition and diversity of plant communities. Various aspects of how abiotic and biotic factors influence species’ performance, distribution patterns and diversity are investigated, and considered in the context of global climate change. The group is part of the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER) with more than 60 senior researchers and postdocs.
The position offers the opportunity to develop an own research and teaching profile (including habilitation at the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Geosciences, University of Bayreuth). Development of new research proposals and publication of high-quality original scientific research are expected. The teaching load is 5 hours per week. Teaching will be in German and/or English primarily in the B.Sc. Biology and the M.Sc. Biodiversity and Ecology programs at the University Bayreuth. The candidate will also support the coordination of research and teaching in the group.
Candidate’s qualifications: (1) Doctoral or PhD degree in Plant Ecology or a related field, (2) knowledge and experience in plant functional and/or physiological ecology, (3) experience in designing, conducting and analyzing experimental field research, (4) a strong publication record, (5) good oral and written communication (English is required, German a plus), (6) skills and desire to collaborate and interact with other scientists.
The position is offered in the civil servant category of ‘Akademischer Rat auf Zeit, A13’, or in salary group 13 TV-L. The hiring requirements are set according to the Bavarian University Personnel Act.
