Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.

The Department of Environmental Toxicology (Utox) has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral position in Microbial Community Ecotoxicology

This position is part of our ongoing research efforts aimed at investigating the interaction of tire wear particles (TWP) and/or their associated chemicals with aquatic biofilm communities and impacts on food chains. The project is part of an interdisciplinary effort, which aims at an integrated assessment of the bioavailability, bioaccumulation and toxicity of TWP to aquatic organisms and potential consequences for freshwater ecosystems. The project comprises a close collaboration between Eawag, EPFL and the Applied Centre for Ecotoxicology at Eawag/EPFL. The place of work for this position is at Eawag in Dübendorf. The initial employment duration is for one year at 100% working time with a potential extension for two more years depending on available additional funds.

We are looking for candidates with a PhD degree in a relevant field and an appropriate track record. You are interested in multidisciplinary research that bridges fundamental and applied aspects with a solid background in microbial community ecology and ecotoxicology. Prior experience in particle-related research and knowledge in molecular tools such as genomics are a valuable asset. The successful candidate is also expected to take initiative for the planning and execution of the experiments, and to be able to work both independently as well as in a team.

Eawag is a modern employer and offers an excellent working environment where staff can contribute their strengths, experience and ways of thinking.
