Academia Sinica’s Taiwan International Graduate Program provides over 100 funded Ph.D. scholarships in 13 interdisciplinary programs ranging from physical sciences, life sciences to social sciences and the humanities.
TIGP is a Ph.D. degree program jointly organized by Academia Sinica and top national research universities in Taiwan. It provides an all-English and advanced research-orientated environment for educating young academic talents from Taiwan and abroad. Students from non-English -speaking countries are expected to read, write, comprehend, and speak English in order to be admitted for graduate study. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit the score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum requirement of TOEFL score is 79-80 on inter-based test, and the minimum requirement of IELTS score is an average 5.5. Please note that institutional TOEFL will not be accepted, only ETS International TOEFL will be accepted. The test of English proficiency can be waived for applicants who have studied two or more than two years in a college or university where English is both the language of instruction and the native language. Applicants in Taiwan may take the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) administered by the Language Training and Testing Center . Applicants are required to pass both two parts of the test and submit their High-intermediate level certificate when applying for admission.
*All above test scores must be taken within the past two years.
* Exemption from the English proficiency requirement. The test of English proficiency can be exempted for applicants graduated from universities where English is the primary language of instruction, if the applicants provide an official certification issued by the Office of Registrar.
*Applicants from English speaking countries are not required to provide the above documents but need to upload the passport to the online application.

1. Bachelor and/or Master degree
Applicants must have earned a Bachelor’s degree and/or a Master’s degree by/during the time they apply for admission to the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP). Applicants who already possess a Ph.D. degree will generally not be considered for a second Ph.D. degree. Applicants who have only completed the Bachelor’s degree can also be admitted but have to take extra 12 elective course credits to fulfill the requirement of PhD advacement. During this PhD study, no Master’s training and diploma will be offered.
2. Academic Transcript
Formal transcripts from all enrolled colleges or universities should be sent to the TIGP Admissions Office. Transcripts may be sent directly by the Registrar of each institution or submitted with the application in sealed envelopes. Please provide an explanation for any non-standard grading system. Transcripts or records of all courses, seminars and examinations, including grades, scores, grading scales, and conferrals of degrees, must be in English . All translations must be complete versions of the original records. Irreplaceable records will be returned only upon request and accompanied by a self-addressed envelope.
3. Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
All applicants are strongly encouraged (not strictly required) to submit GRE’s General Test scores to be evaluated for admission. An advanced Subject Test in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, cell and molecular biology, or physics is also highly recommended.
4. Statement of Purpose
A brief statement of the applicant’s scientific and professional interests and objectives, as well as the applicant’s career goals are essential elements in the statement. Report the applicant’s results on any research in progress, if applicable. This statement must be written in English by the applicant, and should not exceed 2 pages.
5. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
At least three letters of recommendation are required. Each set of the assessment forms should be given to all three of your instructors or individuals familiar with your academic or professional work for assessment propose.
Three letters do not include those letters written by interested faculty members you approach via email or phone only. You may provide the faculty member’s name in your online application to indicate your research interest, but please do not ask the member who is not familiar with you to write you a recommendation letter.

After you finishing the online application submission, please wait for our first screening process. If you are selected for doing the admission interview, we will notify you to send the necessary application documents by post in a specific deadline and also inform you the interview schedule. Please DO NOT send the documents by post before you receive the interview notification.
When you apply for MBAS, there is NO NEED to ask for a pre-acceptance letter from the potential suprvisor but only need to provide the faculty member’s name in your online application for our reference.
