The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (INRAE) is a public research establishment. It is a community of 12,000 people with more than 200 research units and 42 experimental units located throughout France. The institute is among the world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, in plant and animal sciences, and is 11th in the world in ecology and environment.

INRAE’s main goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. In the face of the increase in population, climate change, scarcity of resources and decline in biodiversity, the institute develops solutions for multiperformance agriculture, high quality food and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.

Work environment, missions and activities

We seek a candidate for a 3-year ANR-funded project aiming at understanding the function and ecological role of plant leaf symbioses. The project is at the interface between the fields of microbiology/plant biology and natural product chemistry and focuses on understanding the mechanisms driving the ecological success of plant-bacteria symbioses, especially leaf symbioses.

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics or metabolomics), a good understanding of host-bacteria associations, and a strong interest for chemical ecology. This is a full-time position with competitive salary and excellent benefits afforded to all INRAE employees.

You will join the PHYLLOSYM team of the LIPME, headed by Aurélien Carlier, near Toulouse, South West France. The lab is part of the INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse campus, a large cluster of laboratories focused on research in agriculture and biology.

Your tasks will include leading a scientific projet, designing experiments, collecting data and writing manuscripts. You will work closely with an international team of microbiologists and natural product chemists to guide experiments and interpret outcomes. You will be expected to pursue opportunities to publish and present your research externally.
