Description We are seeking a PhD student to work on emerging contaminants in coastal stormwater ponds. This effort focuses on assessing impacts of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) in runoff and the perceptions of these pollutants among residents and relevant stakeholders. The goal is to inform design, management, and regulation of ponds to reduce the impact of emerging contaminants, specifically pesticides, along the South Carolina coast. The target start date is August 2023 in Clemson University’s College of Agriculture, Forest and Life Sciences.
The initial 3 years of funding as a research assistantship covers stipend and tuition. Subsequent funding will consist of teaching or research assistantships, as available. The student will also work with faculty to apply for additional funding and fellowships.
Qualifications: The PhD student will be engaged in cutting edge research on CECs that includes field sampling, laboratory analysis, outreach, statistical analysis and writing. Preferred candidates should have a strong desire for interdisciplinary research, be open-minded, curious, eager to learn, and ready to work as part of a team.
The ideal candidate should have completed an MS degree by August 2023 in a related field (we are open to numerous possibilities) and be available to start August 2023.
