The Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical Faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg
offers a PhD position (f/m/d) (TV-L 13, 65%) for 3 years starting 01/2023
The project: As part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group GRK 2413 SynAGE “The aging synapse”, you will investigate the consequences of altered signal transduction pathways and their effects on cellular properties of neurons and astrocytes in the healthy aging brain. A combination of cell culture techniques, pharmacological manipulation of signal transduction pathways and in vivo metabolic labeling of neuronal and astrocytic proteomes in mice will help to explore potential molecular targets for rejuvenation of the aging brain.
This project involves molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, microscopy and also bioinformatics techniques. The project is closely linked to other projects within the graduate programme and will enable diverse collaborations with excellent research groups.
You are:
- A highly motivated student with a background in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or similar fields with a completed Master, Diploma (or equivalent) degree
- A student with first hands-on experiences in molecular and biochemical techniques, cell culture and work with mice or rats
- Strongly interested in molecular and cellular neurosciences
- Willing to work independently, design and conduct own experiments and the drive to develop the project
- Well organized with a diligent working style
- Fluent in English
- A team player
Your chance:
As a PhD student of GRK 2413 SynAGE you will be part of a group of students working on healthy aging of the brain applying different models and various techniques and thereby allow you to benefit from a broad expertise of scientist from several excellent research institutes in Magdeburg, like the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology or the DZNE.
The graduate program supports your development as a scientist with scientific talks, participation in meetings, technical courses but also promotes your soft skill tools and networking with senior scientist as well as with Co-PhD students. Magdeburg is a city in the middle of Germany, only 2 hours away from Berlin or Leipzig with low living costs, many parks along the river and an active student community.
