The role: We are seeking to appoint a new academic at the level of either Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Plant Sciences. The successful applicants will complement our School Research Strategy.
We are interested in applicants who we can support to build internationally outstanding plant science research programmes in areas linked to our strategic research priority, ‘Transforming sustainable food production’. Research should address one of the highlighted challenges outlined in our School Research Strategy: Molecular mechanisms underpinning agriculture; Pollinators and crops; Combatting the losses in agriculture due to pests and diseases. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates using molecular approaches, who are engaged in or developing industrial partnerships, and can contribute broadly to teaching in molecular biology and plant science.
We are committed to promoting equality of access and outcome for all, celebrating diversity and providing an inclusive learning and work environment for staff and students. Applicants must contribute to our commitment to enhance the diversity of backgrounds and cultures of our staff and the diversity of role models we provide for our students.
What will you be doing?
The newly appointed academic will engage with teaching and research in a growing and successful department; currently one of the leading Schools of Biological Sciences in the UK.
The appointment will further complement, as appropriate to the candidate’s field, University Research Institutes for Data Science (Jean Golding Institute), Global Change (Cabot Institute), and the Bristol BioDesign Institute, Bristol Centre for Agricultural Innovation, the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility and the Advanced Computing Research Centre.
Applicants will be considered in light of how they will help create new research opportunities within the Faculty of Life Sciences, more widely across the University, and with external industrial partners.
You should apply if: The successful applicant will be an internationally recognised researcher with a track record commensurate with experience. They will have research portfolios that provide evidence of academic skills, research experience and innovative approaches. They will have a strong commitment and aptitude for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Candidates should contact the School of Biological Sciences for a copy of our School Research Strategy.
Additional information: For informal enquiries, please contact: Pa-biology@bristol.ac.uk. The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential.
