Calleva Centre two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate; CLOSING: 26 JANUARY 2023

We are seeking one qualified and highly motivated individual for a Postdoctoral Research Associate post investigating evolution of fungal pathogens in response to disease control measures. The research involves two parts. The first is to search for targets for genetic control informed by analysing genomes of historical samples of fungal crop pathogens spanning the last 70 years. The second is to test some putative targets experimentally using plant infection, RNA interference and experimental evolution in the laboratory. The postholder will also help to organise workshops bringing together an interdisciplinary group of scientists to brainstorm design features for genetic targets of future control methods, to be tested in the project.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with well-developed expertise in evolutionary genomics, bioinformatics, fungal biology and/or plant infection studies and RNAi, and an established interest in and experience of one or both parts of the research project. Appointees will need a proven track record in the independent management of a discrete area of a research project and of working as part of a larger team to address shared goals.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for research activities such as analysing data, performing experiments, developing hypotheses for testing, help supervising other group members, communicating with academics and non-academics, and the preparation and publication of manuscripts.

The location of the job will be in Oxford.

The appointments will be made on grade 7 of University Salary Scale, currently £33,309 -£44,706 p.a. and be made for two years in the first instance.
