Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Aarhus University, Denmark. We are seeking applicants for a 33-months position in phenomics and genetics for the development of speed breeding in vernalization-dependent cool-season grasses.
The position is available from May 1 2023 or as soon as possible.
Speed Breeding (SB) protocols has until very recently not been available for vernalization-dependent crops. However, a SB protocol for winter wheat and winter barley was published recently where up to five generations per year was achieved. The SB approach developed for wheat and barley could potentially be adapted to other perennial crops with a strong vernalization requirement to reduce generation time and accelerate breeding outcomes. The aim of this project is to develop and implement SB for vernalization-dependent perennial ryegrass to accelerate the genetic gain.
We are looking for a highly motivated team member with a strong interest in plant science, phenomics, genetics and plant breeding, able to plan and conduct research independently.
- A PhD in relevant disciplines such as plant physiology, phenomics, genetics, or related fields.
- Expertise and proven track record of successful research in plant physiology, phenomics and genetics.
- Knowledge on programming in R or any other programming language for statistical data analysis in e.g., R and python and analytic thinking.
- Expertise in high-performance computing.
- Expertise in designing and conducting experiments in growth cabinets and greenhouses.
- Good communication and writing skills in English.
- Experience in writing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Expertise in artificial intelligence.
- Expertise in speed breeding.
- Knowledge in analysis of phenomics experiments.
- Experience in preparing reports and presentations for the stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm, commitment, and a strong interest in plant science.

The Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) is a vibrant and exciting interdisciplinary center for research and education in quantitative genetics and quantitative genomics (http://www.qgg.au.dk/en). QGG is an international organization with 70 employees and visiting researchers from more than 15 countries. We perform basic and applied research within plant, livestock and human quantitative genetics. Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
