The Nutritional Metabolomic Research Group led by Prof. Lorraine Brennan is seeking a Research Assistant to work on the Health Research Board (HRB) US-Ireland funded project ‘Food based biomarkers, diet quality and cardiometabolic health’. The successful candidate should have a background in analytical chemistry and experience in using and running an NMR spectrometer. The role will support researchers with all laboratory aspects of the project including biological sample preparation for metabolomics analysis, statistical analysis and reporting.
The candidate should possess the following skills; good laboratory skills, time management and good organisational skills. They will also need to prepare reports and present results at project meetings. The candidate will need to able to work as part of a team but also independently. This position is an excellent opportunity to join a multidisciplinary research team.
Salary Range: €28,701 – €35,716 per annum. Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 13th of February 2023.

Applications are invited for a 9-month Research Assistant position, which will most likely be extended for an additional 12 months based on project outcomes. The position is part of a two-year project “SusBioMe: Enhancing the performance and sustainability of Anaerobic Digestors and Biorefineries through Electric Field interventions. This is a new project funded by Enterprise Ireland, which seeks to commercialize novel technologies developed at the School of Agriculture and Food Science, UCD with the target of entering the renewable energy sector in Ireland, UK and EU.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an international, multi-cultural and interdisciplinary team tackling a major global societal challenge (PI: Prof James Lyng, Co-PI: Dr. Ajay Menon). This is an industry facing role and the successful condition will have opportunity to interact with key players in the Irish and EU renewables industry and work in an entrepreneurial setting towards the production of a market and investment ready commercial vehicle.
The Research Assistant will collate and analyse electroprocessing data relating organic feedstocks and effluents used in commercial anaerobic digestion plants, and conduct interviews with farmers with industry partners as a part of ongoing stakeholder management exercises and help in the development of market ready prototypes. Upon the expected extension, the successful candidate will assist in on-site pilot trials and communicating results to partners and investors.
It is anticipated that the role will commence in February 2023, or shortly thereafter. Research Assistant Salary Range : €28,701 – €33,394 per annum. Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Scientist within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
Food for Health Ireland is a centre for functional food development funded by Enterprise Ireland and members of the Irish Food Industry. FHI combines expertise from a number of national institutes including University College Dublin, Teagasc and others. This Research Scientist position will be located at University College Dublin.
Research within FHI spans the full spectrum of research, utilising cell, animal model and human studies (www.fhi.ie), examining the impact of food products/ ingredients on markers of health and disease. This post will focus on laboratory and statistical analysis and writing of scientific publications across a number of work packages within FHI – including Healthy Cheese and Grass Fed Dairy.
Duties will also include laboratory work, statistical analysis, and supporting the writing of scientific publications/reports. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to management aspects of the project, supporting the lead researcher in the management of the team and work undertaken.
Fixed salary range: €50,000 – €60,000 per annum. Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 14th February 2023.

4- UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science ,14 months:
Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science
This project is part of a larger Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) funded programme “BioCrop” involving UCD, NUI Galway, TCD, Teagasc and industry partners. BioCrop aims to develop and test new and existing biobased products for Barley production. Increasing EU regulations on fertiliser use and the application of currently available plant protection products require the need to seek and validate effective alternatives.
This position will be responsible for the identification and characterisation of antimicrobials from different endophytic fungi. Such secreted fungal peptides and compounds can act as elicitors, activating the plant defence response and/or in some cases are directly antimicrobial. There will also be occasional field work. In addition, the position will involve regular interaction and communication of aims and results and of the wider project to stakeholders and partners.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
