We seek one or more motivated students to pursue a Ph.D. or M.S. degree at Washington State University, Vancouver, as part of an interdisciplinary, National Science Foundation-funded research project focused on understanding linkages between water management and aquatic ecosystem function in freshwater reservoirs, starting in fall of 2023.
The Dams as Adaptive Management Systems (DAMS) project, an exciting collaboration between ecologists, economists, and engineers, will use reservoir water management as a test-case to understand how the environment, society, and new knowledge interact to shape rule-following, rule-bending and rule-reformulation behaviors, and how, in-turn, these behaviors affect reservoir ecosystem responses,
. It is anticipated that the successful applicant(s) will develop a research focus on interactions between reservoir water management and greenhouse gas emissions and/or water quality. In addition, the successful applicant(s) will have an opportunity to work with the larger research group, which includes individuals working to understand management impacts on harmful algal blooms and aquatic invasive species, as well as socioenvironmental aspects of reservoir management.
