The Department of Microbiome and Applied Bioinformatics at the Institute of Nutritional Sciences is looking for a Research Associate/Doctoral Student to start as soon as possible. The remuneration is based on salary group E13 TV-L (50% of the regular working hours). The position is limited to three years.

We are seeking highly motivated PhD students in computational microbiome research to develop and apply metagenomics and bioinformatics methods to study human microbiome organization, ecology and function. Our research is located at the interface of (clinical) microbiology, nutritional science and immunology and covers topics such as fecal microbiota transplantation, pathogen transfer between body sites, and microbiota establishment, persistence, and transfer.

Your responsibilities: You will manage your own research projects related to the topics listed above, apply and adapt bioinformatics tools for sequencing-based microbiome research and continue development of strain-level microbiota analysis methods.

Your background: You have a bioinformatics degree and/or extensive work experience, as well as a theoretical natural sciences background (microbiology, genetics, immunology, nutritional scie biochemistry etc.).You can program, are proficient in R and have hands-on experience with omics data analysis. You can independently manage your project, present progress reports and research findings, and adapt and develop novel research strategies and methods.
