Postdoctoral Position in the Environmental Genomics group, Kiel University, Germany; Structural and functional evolution of fungal effector proteins: A postdoctoral position is available for three years in the field of evolutionary genetics in the “Environmental Genomics” group headed by Prof. Eva H. Stukenbrock.
The group is working at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel and at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in the North of Germany. The post-doctoral position is compensated at E13 TV-L, covers 38,7h/week.
Background: The project is part of the newly funded ERC project “FungalSecrets”. A primary goal of the project is to understand the evolutionary diversification of secreted proteins among closely related fungal species. A particular focus will be on secreted proteins which have either antimicrobial properties or interact with the plant immune system.
The successful post-doctoral candidate will lead and conduct structural predictions and comparative analyses of structural protein homologies. Plant microbiota work already conducted in the group is part of the Community Research Center “Function and Origin of Metaorganisms”
Description and qualifications:
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team of biologists (molecular biologists, evolutionary biologists and population geneticists) as well as to pursue unique research in the field of evolutionary genetics and plant-pathogen-microbe interactions.
The candidate must have:
- A PhD degree in evolutionary genetics/genomics
- Experience with computational analyses of proteome data
- Experience with evolutionary analyses of protein sequences.
- Experience with structural prediction tools such as AlphaFold and Rosetta is an advantage.
- Proven record of independent research.
- Good presentation, writing, computing and organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
For further information regarding the position please contact Eva Stukenbrock (estukenbrock@bot.uni-kiel.de). Kiel University strives for a high proportion of women in research and teaching.
Applications from qualified female scientists are therefore particularly encouraged. Applications from candidates with migration background are welcome. Disabled persons will be given preference in filling vacancies within the existing legal provisions if equally qualified.
Application:
Interested candidates should send a motivation letter including a description of current research directions, an up-to-date CV, together with the names and the contact information of at least two references to Eva H. Stukenbrock (estukenbrock@bot.uni-kiel.de).
Application deadline 30.06.23.
