MSc in Fisheries Science (Full Scholarship): Seeking a highly motivated MSc student to join our lab conducting research on fish ecology and stock assessment in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This project will focus on applying statistical models to address questions related to spatial and temporal predator-prey dynamics and variability in prey populations (e.g., capelin, northern shrimp) on the Newfoundland and Labrador shelf.

Models will be applied to answer questions related to ecosystem dynamics, fisheries stock assessment, and ecosystem-based fisheries management. This project will involve collaborations with researchers at Memorial University and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Funding includes a $24,000 annual stipend for two years plus funds to travel to professional meetings and conferences.

Location: The candidate will be registered in a two year, fully funded MSc program in Fisheries Science at the Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University of Newfoundland, in St. John’s, Canada

Requirements:

  • BSc in Fisheries Science/Ecology, Statistics, Mathematics, Marine Ecology/Biology, Oceanography or related discipline
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills and experience with R or Python
  • Strong written and communication skills
