Innovative research at the interplay of the bio economy, agriculture, environmental and climate protection as well as animal welfare and animal health – the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) offers ca. 300 employees the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary basic and applied research.

Developing sustainable livestock farming in a globalized world is a complex task. Efficiency and conservation of resources, taking into account local and global environmental and climate impacts are just as much in focus as the welfare and health of the animals and the safety of the food obtained from them.

The Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) stands for excellent research in international, multidisciplinary teams, modern infrastructure and a colloquial atmosphere. Our green, natural campus near Rostock, a cosmopolitan city by the sea, offers our employees an attractive working environment in which they are valued and respected.

The Institute of Genetics and Biometry is looking for a Research Scientist (m/f/d) for a limited period of 3 years in full‐time starting at the earliest possible date. If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the salary will be paid according to Pay group E 13 TV-L

What to expect:

The candidate will contribute their expertise to scientific projects and further tasks of the research group “Statistics in Genomics”. One focus of this group is the development and evaluation of statistical tools for the analysis of high-dimensional biological data (e.g., of the genome or methylome) to identify associations with health and performance traits in livestock and to establish experimental designs for fine mapping of trait-associated variants.

In addition to theoretically based findings, appropriate software packages and pipelines are generated for practical application. The pursuit of own research topics within this framework is supported.

What to bring:

The candidate has a PhD in biomathematics, agricultural sciences (major in animal or plant breeding), or a related bioscience discipline with a statistical focus. The candidate has in-depth experience with high-dimensional data modelling and is familiar with molecular genetic data and their application in statistical modelling.

Knowledge of programming (e.g., R, C++, Fortran) and preparation of software pipelines is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and willingness to solicit external funding and publish research results are required.
