The Albrecht-von-Haller-Institute for Plant Sciences at the Faculty of Biology and Psychology of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen invites applications for a W3 – Professorship in the field of Molecular Stress Physiology of Plants (f/m/d) as a tenured civil servant to be filled at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for an internationally recognized personality and communicative team player, who will be responsible for research and teaching in the field of molecular stress physiology of model and/or crop plants. The future scientific focus of the department should be the investigation of plant adaptation strategies to climate change-associated abiotic temperature and/or drought stress conditions, their modification by the plant microbiome or their effects on simultaneously occurring biotic stress induced by microbial, animal or plant parasites.

The spatio-temporal understanding of relevant plant signaling and metabolic networks, analysis of executive physiological adaptation mechanisms, or exploitation of their genomic diversity, using innovative bio-physiological sensor technologies, methods of plant systems biology, and application areas of integrated omics technologies represent potential research areas.

In teaching, the professorship will participate in cross-disciplinary courses in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. The main teaching focus will be the reinforcement and development of the Bachelor courses “Biology” and “Biochemistry” and the continuation of teaching basic biology to students of medicine. The professorship will also contribute to the continuous innovative development of the plant science modules within the Master’s programs “Molecular Life Science”, “Molecular Biology” and “Computational Biology and Bioinformatics”. The University of Göttingen attaches great importance to research-oriented teaching.

The Göttingen campus offers excellent opportunities for cooperation and integration in the Göttingen Center for Molecular Biosciences (GZMB) and in the facilities for plant life sciences in the Faculties of Biology & Psychology, Forest Sciences & Forest Ecology and Agricultural Sciences. Participation in and initiation of interdisciplinary (TransRegio) cooperation projects (Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, BMBF and EU projects) in the fields of stress resilience, biochemistry and biotechnology of plants is explicitly requested.

Preconditions for an appointment are laid down in section 25 NHG of the Higher Education Law of Lower Saxony. Candidates who have received their doctorate from the University of Göttingen can usually only be considered if they have been scientifically active for at least two years after the Ph.D. outside the University of Göttingen. As a Public Law Foundation, the University of Göttingen has the right to appoint professors. Further details will be provided upon request.

Applications of international researchers are highly encouraged. The University strives to increase the proportion of female staff and specifically encourages qualified women to apply. It regards itself as a family-friendly university and fosters the reconciliation of science/work and family. The University is particularly committed to the professional participation of severely disabled employees and therefore welcomes applications from severely disabled people. In the case of equal qualifications, applications from people with severe disabilities will be given preference. A disability or equal status must be included in the application to protect the application’s interests.

Applications including pertinent documentation (CV, certificates, list of publications, overview of third-party funds obtained, teaching records, future research and teaching concept) should be sent in one pdf-file (max. 5 MB) to the Dean’s Office until July 31, 2023 to
