Postdoctoral researcher (all genders welcome): The position is offered within the framework of the research project “Interactive effects of local and landscape scale restoration of semi-naturalgrasslands and agricultural fields on species interactions and ecosystem functions in different social-ecological systems (InterRest)” and should start on01.09.2023 for 12 months.
The regular working hours will be 39.8 hours per week with a limited contract for 12 months. Salary will be paid according tothe German grade 13 TV-L. The postdoc will be supervised in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. David Kleijn from Wageningen University, where a6-months extension of the contract is foreseen.
InterRest is an interdisciplinary project investigating the effects of restoration in calcareous grasslands, one of Europe’s most species-rich habitat types. The focus is on species interactions including (1) plant-soil, (2) plant-pollinator and (3) bird-food resource interactions, in restored and degradedcalcareous grasslands. Additionally, we analyse the effects of ecosystem functions including soil functions, pollination and predation.
The study sites areembedded in different socio-ecological and landscape contexts in three countries (Germany, Spain and Estonia). The postdoctoral researcher willcollaborate with an international team of researchers to synthesize data across the different taxa and regions.
Your profile:
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with excellent communication skills to join our international research team. Applicantsmust hold a PhD in ecology, biology, agriculture or related disciplines.
As work involves mostly the analysis of data collected in the first phase of theproject, you should have excellent knowledge of ecological statistics with R (e.g. functional trait analyses, mixed models, structural equation modelling)and preferably experience in analyzing species interactions (e.g. metanetworks).
Proficiency in GIS applications (e.g. QGIS) is an asset. Interestedcandidates should have research experience in agroecology, functional biodiversity research, and/or landscape ecology. Fluency in written and spokenEnglish and a good publication record are required. Applications should include a letter of interest, your CV, copies of your certificates and contactinformation of at least two references.
Your tasks
- Analysis of local and landscape scale restoration effects on multiple species groups and ecological functions across the different trophic levels
- Using metanetworks to identify the most important interactions and habitat fragments to guide environmental policy and conservation efforts
