PhD PROGRAMME IN SOIL AND FOOD SCIENCE:

The Ph.D. course focuses on the “soil-food-human health” axis. Thanks to heterogeneous and complimentary expertise, it guarantees the adoption of a holistic approach involving features of soil chemistry and biochemistry, horticulture and floriculture, including protected and soilless crops, food biotechnologies, farming agro-technologies, biochemistry and molecular biology, including clinical ones, diet, human microbiome and diseases; functional foods; analytical chemistry and agricultural economy.

The Ph.D. students will acquire an integrated overview of the above-mentioned axis, paying attention to the need for the modernization of the agri-food sector toward sustainable choices.

The Ph.D. course trains job titles that may work in both research centres and private companies that provide services and products for agriculture, food, environment and health.

Research activity description: The research activities will concern, in particular, the characterization, through “omics” technologies (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc…) of innovative foods from the point of view of sustainability, since they are obtained from raw materials that currently either are scarcely used (e.g., local plant varieties) or considered as waste and as such represent an economic and environmental cost.

Fellowship n. 7 Project: Enhancement of local varieties of vegetables and horticultural products included in the national list of Traditional Agro-Food Products of Puglia (curriculum 1: Food microbiology, technology, safety and chemistry) Call for tender D.M. 118 (P.A., 4.1)

Title Scholarship: Investment 4.1 “Extension of the number of research doctorates and innovative doctorates for public administration and cultural heritage”

Research activity description: The research activities will aim to support the maintenance and reintroduction on the territory of the cultivation of local varieties naturally adapted to the regional pedoclimatic conditions threatened by genetic erosion, in order to prevent their extinction and to protect the regional agricultural biodiversity.

Application Requirements:

The selection will be made following the call. The examination will be based on the evaluation of candidate qualifications, proposed project, oral interview, and foreign language knowledge checking (English).

Admission tests for foreigners:

Foreign candidate may choose to use English or Italian language during the oral interview.  FOR ALL THE CANDIDATES, the exams will be distinct for each curriculum and the respective rankings will merge into a single final ranking that will give the title to access.

The places available will be assigned, among the various curricula, according to the order in the ranking of merit, until the places are exhausted.  All the candidates must indicate, while filling the application, the choice of curriculum under penalty of exclusion from the competition.

Admission exam dates and time:

Qualifications: 26th July 2023
