Overview:

We wish to appoint a Genomics technician to join the School of Biological & Behavioural Sciences (SBBS), a large, dynamic and expanding School within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with approximately 1800 students and 100 academic staff members, who carry out excellent education, research and public engagement activities, with support from 32 administrative staff and more than 20 technical staff.

The post is part of the Technical Services career family at Queen Mary University of London, which supports functions across multiple sites and provides the infrastructure and support for all our research, teaching and learning activities.

The purpose of this role is to run our Genomics Facility and provide technical expertise and hands-on support to our researchers in SBBS. Our facility houses among others a PromethION, MiniIONs, an Agilent Seahorse XFe24 Analyzer and a Saphyr optical mapping system.

About You:

The post holder will have extensive experience in library preparation for genetics/genomics work. They will have considerable understanding and technical experience of working in a genomics laboratory environment and experience of supporting the research process/researchers. They will also have a good understanding of Health & Safety regulations and rules to guide users in the laboratories.

Due to the nature of work involved, the operational core requirements of this role can only be met effectively when working on campus. This role is therefore exempt from a regular pattern of Hybrid working. The post is based on Mile End Campus. It is a 3-year fixed term appointment. The salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £38,165 – £44,722 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
