We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a ‘drive’ for applied research. You have a demonstrable interest in sensor design/construction, printed electronics, multiphysics modelling and signal processing. You obtained an MSc degree in Applied Physics, Engineering, or the equivalent.
The PhD position is firmly embedded in an engineering environment, where you interact with chemical engineers, material and life-sciences scientists. Good communication skills in English are required.
About you
- You hold a master or engineering degree in physics, materials sciences, electronics, electro-mechanics (or equivalent)
Final-year students are (likewise) encouraged to apply. - Working independently gives you a lot of freedom in your work. You are enthusiastic about taking initiative and responsibility.
- You have the necessary qualities to function within an international team. You have the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. An international experience such as Erasmus or an internship abroad is a asset.
- It motivates you to contribute to didactic and outreach tasks of the Faculty of Engineering Technology. Sharing your knowledge with students not only excites you, but also them.
- You have excellent computer skills and can manage data properly, are able to present scientific results, and have excellent reporting skills.
- You are well-organized and dedicated to performing a practical experiment in the best way, ensuring that technical instruments are employed / calibrated in the right way.
- You have already published a first scientific paper, which could be an advantage.
- You have a problem-solving attitude and enjoy staying up to date with recent developments.
- You have a strong background/experience in at least two of the following theoretical disciplines: impedance or thermal based sensing, printed electronics, microfluidics, device physics, numerical simulations, finite element modelling.

Scholarship for a period of 2 x 2 years, after positive intermediate evaluation.
