Two Teaching Assistantships in Dr. Allyse Ferrara’s Bayousphere Research Lab will be available for the Spring 2024 semester for the Master of Science in Marine and Environmental Biology program at Nicholls State University. Teaching Assistantships include tuition wavier and stipend of $4,800 a semester plus $1,750/month for four months of summer and winter salary.

The successful applicants will conduct laboratory and field research on an NSF funded functional genomics and husbandry project using Spotted Gar. Graduate researchers will be responsible for brood stock collection and care and maintenance of brood stock, embryos and juveniles in laboratory and outdoor facilities.
With committee guidance, graduate-level thesis projects will be developed to improve embryo and juvenile production of Spotted Gar and/or assess possible epigenetic differences among Spotted Gar populations. Applicants must have field experience including trailering, towing and operating small boats. Previous experience working with fishes is highly desirable.
