Research Assistant (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in) (m/f/d), 100%; E13 TV-L: The Institute for Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Hohenheim currently has a vacancy for a Research Assistant (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in) (m/f/d), 100%; E13 TV-L; limited to 36 months but with option of prolongation) to be filled.

The Institute’s research and teaching area is mathematical methods in the life sciences (biology, nutritional medicine, food technology), with a focus on modelling and simulation of the human heart. The Institute is a member of the Living Heart Project of Dassault Systèmes and is involved in the establishment of the Hohenheim Computational Science Hub.

The call for applications is aimed at applied mathematicians or graduates of comparable studies with a demonstrable interest in data-driven simulation using differential equations, in scientific high-performance computing and/or in artificial intelligence in medicine and the life sciences.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Independent research with the aim of PhD or habilitation.
  • Independent delivery of courses in German and English (German language skills are not a formal prerequisite, but proficiency at level B2 is expected within two years).
  • Participation in the research and teaching projects run by the Institute.
  • Supervision of students.
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks and in quality assurance measures.
  • Contribution to expanding the international scientific and cultural contacts of the Institute.
  • Participation in public relations activities. 

Prerequisites for the appointment:

  • Master or Doctoral degree in Mathematics completed at a domestic or foreign higher education Institution.
  • A strong background in dynamical systems, partial differential equations and/or artifical intelligence.
  • Presentations at scienfific conferences.
  • Fluency in English  
  • Additional desired qualifications:
  • Proven potential for scientific activity.
  • Publications relevant to the subject.
  • Communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in the acquisition and running of third-party funded projects and/or readiness to play an active role in third-party funded projects and their acquisition.
  • Didactic competence and proven successful teaching experience.
  • Scientific curiosity and enthusiasm for imparting knowledge.
  • ·German language skills.
  • Ability to work in diverse team.
