Dr Wang’s lab at UF is recruiting one PhD student and one Postdoc researcher. See more information below and if you’re interested, please reach out to Dr Wang at ying.wang1@ufl.edu.

Dr Wang’s lab at UF is recruiting one PhD student:

The Wang Laboratory (Department of Plant Pathology, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL) is recruiting a Ph.D. student to conduct research in the area of molecular genetics. Specifically, our laboratory focuses on understanding the roles of RNA structures in mediating plant-viroid interactions.

This project is funded by National Science Foundation (USA). University of Florida has a strong plant research community and offers the State of the Art research infrastructure. Gainesville is known for its affordable cost of living and college town vibe and is close to major cities like Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, etc.

Desired qualifications: – The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills. – The successful candidate is expected to have teamwork skills. – The successful candidate should have good skills in wet bench research.

Financial support: The successful candidate’s tuition will be covered, in addition to a $30,000/year stipend.

Minimum qualifications: – The successful candidate must meet the minimum requirements by either the Plant Molecular Biology Program (https://pmcb.ifas.ufl.edu/admissions/ ) or the Department of Plant Pathology (https://plantpath.ifas.ufl.edu/academics/graduate -admissions/). – The successful candidate is expected to master the general knowledge of molecular genetics, biochemistry, and cell biology.

To apply: Applicants should contact Dr. Ying Wang (ying.wang1@ufl.edu ) and provide a brief cover letter and CV. The successful candidate is expected to submit an application package to meet the UF graduate school requirements.

Dr Wang’s lab at UF is recruiting one Postdoc researcher:

The Wang Laboratory (Department of Plant Pathology, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research in the area of molecular genetics of in vivo RNA structures.

Specifically, our laboratory focuses on understanding the roles of RNA structures in mediating plant-viroid interactions (click here to see Wang lab info). This position is funded by National Science Foundation (USA).

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will analyze in vivo RNA structures with functional implications in facilitating viroid replication and/or trafficking in cells.
  • The successful candidate will take lead in experiment design and conduction, data collection and analysis, and manuscript/proposal preparation.
  • The successful candidate will participate in training graduate students and visiting undergraduate students in the laboratory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or an equivalent degree) in molecular biology, biochemistry, or in a related field by the time of joining the Wang lab.
  • The successful candidate is expected to have ample experimental experience in RNA biology and molecular biology as demonstrated by a publication record.
  • The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills.

Desired qualifications: – Candidates familiar with bioinformatics and/or RNA structure analysis are highly desired.

Position description: – The position will be located at the University of Florida, Department of Plant Pathology, Gainesville, FL. – The successful candidate is expected to make significant progress during the support, measured by publications and preliminary data for grant applications. – The successful candidate will receive trainings in effective communications (writing and oral presentations) and have opportunities to attend National/International meetings.
