The Department of Biology at Texas State University invites applications for up to three positions at the Assistant/Associate Professor level specializing in integrative microbiological research that leverages molecular, genomic, and bioinformatic tools.

The successful candidates will engage in collaborative initiatives to strengthen our research and mentoring efforts in emerging areas of microbiology. They will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate microbiology or related courses in the Department of Biology and develop an externally funded research program involving graduate students that complements the strengths of our faculty.

General research areas of particular interest include Microbial Functional Genomics, Microbial Ecology, and Molecular Microbiology. This position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications               

Required qualifications for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor:

  • An earned Ph.D. in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, genomics, or related area in hand at time of application.
  • Relevant post doctoral experience.

Required qualifications for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor

  • An earned Ph.D. in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, genomics, or related areas in hand at time of application.
  • Relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • A record of collegiate teaching.
  • Evidence of student mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications               

Preferred qualifications for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor

  • Strong molecular biology and bioinformatics skills, and research experience in microbiology complementing the broad research strengths of the Department
  • A record of peer-reviewed research publications in microbiology, microbial meta-genomics, or microbial genetics/genomics research and analyses
  • Evidence of external grant funding to support research
  • Evidence of student mentoring
  • Preferred qualifications for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor
  • Strong molecular biology and bioinformatics skills, and research experience in microbiology complementing the broad research strengths of the Department
  • A record of peer-reviewed research publications in microbiology, microbial meta-genomics, or microbial genetics/genomics research and analyses
  • A sustained record of external grant funding to support research
  • A record of successful supervision and mentoring of graduate students
