At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forestry Sciences, Institute for Forest Use and Forestry Technology, there is a position at the Professorship for Forest Use as of December 1st, 2023 scientific employee / doctoral student / postdoc (m/f/d) (if the personal requirements E 13 TV-L are met) for 3 years
(duration of employment according to WissZeitVG), with 50% of the regular weekly working hours and an increase for doctoral students by 25% of the regular weekly working hours or for postdocs by 50% of the regular weekly working hours until June 30, 2026, with the aim your own further scientific qualification (usually a doctorate/habilitation).

The Chair of Forest Use conducts basic and application-oriented research along the forest-wood value chain. On the one hand, structure-property relationships of wood and plant cell walls are analyzed through anatomical, structural and mechanical investigations and the quality of the wood is examined.
On the other hand, innovative applications of wood are being promoted. The swelling and shrinking behavior of wood is used for a new type of self-forming process of complex shaped components and 3D printing with a high wood content is developed based on wood residues.
Tasks: Participation in research and teaching at the Chair of Forest Use: scientific research on topics and current projects of the Chair in coordination with your own research interests; Publication and presentation of research results; Participation in the preparation and implementation of courses (exercises, seminars, lectures, supervision of student work in German and English) in courses such as the bachelor’s degree in forestry and the master’s degree in forestry and wood technology and wood industry; Participation in academic self-administration and support of the administration of the professorship, including the administration of IT resources of the working group.
Requirements: scientific university degree, possibly a doctorate in forestry or a related subject, strong interest in the research fields of the professorship and in their further development, proven (depending on career stage) through previous achievements; team and communication skills; goal-oriented way of working; Fluent written and oral expression (level C1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages) in German and English.
Experience in mechanical material testing, in dealing with programming languages such as B. Matlab or Python as well as in teaching (depending on career stage) are an advantage.
